Square Peg Development was founded as David Hayward, Principal, moved his focus from single family development into mixed use, retail, land and other complex projects. This allowed him to use the hands-on experience he had learned in other ventures and cities to bring true value to complex entitlement cases.
San Francisco Bay Area
Neighborhood Homes LLC
The iteration of David’s development and home building firm prior to Square Peg had its second life in the San Francisco Bay Area. Operating in San Francisco, Oakland and Alameda, David expanded his focus on land development and entitlements, operating in some of the most challenging regulatory environments in the US.
New Orleans
David’s OG development firm was founded in New Orleans. After a stint in management consulting at Monitor Group, working in San Francisco, Mumbai, and Johannesburg David relocated to the Crescent City with his future wife. His career change into construction and development started at Habitat for Humanity, then the largest home builder within the city limits. Learning fast, David then struck out on his own, purchasing and rehabbing larger and larger properties until he left town having developed a new 7 home lot split in the historic (and now super trendy) Bywater neighborhood.
